‘Acetylene Gang’ steals P5M worth of jewelry

ALLEGED acetylene gang members broke into a pawnshop in Pasig City, stealing jewelries worth P5 million, a police official said Thursday.

Chief Inspector Jorel Kalipusan said the "style" used by thieves who robbed the Dos Pawnshop located at Market Avenue in Barangay Palatiw, Pasig City, on October 8 was similar to the activities of the acetylene gang wherein they dig and made a tunnel under the target establishment to get through it.

Reports say the owner of the pawnshop who lives in the same establishment discovered the incident on Thursday morning.

Kalipusan said the suspects made use of the drainage canal where two hydraulic jacks, two acetylene tanks, LPG tank, bolt cutter, two crowbars, manual drill, pliers, and hand gloves were found.

"Sinira din nila 'yung CCTV (closed-circuit television) camera dun sa loob ng (pawn) shop pero susubukan pa rin naming na ma-retrieve ang footage to identify the suspects," he said.

Meanwhile, Philippine National Police (PNP) Public Affairs chief Wilben Mayor said the incident is a slash to Eastern Police District (EPD) chief Abelardo Villacorta's scorecard.

Villacorta is the only district director in the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) who kept his post despite a major revamp. (Sunnex)
