THE Land Transportation Office in Davao Region has apprehended a total of 6,012 violators of Davao City’s speed limit for August and September this year.
LTO-Davao Operations Division chief Eleanor S. Calderon said in an interview that they are continuing to intensify their monitoring on the speed limit.
Calderon also said that they have increased the penalties for overspeeding that is under the reckless driving violation.
A violator is fined P2,000 for first offense, P3,000 for second offense and suspension of driver's license for six months on third offense.
For subsequent offenses, the violator will be fined P10,000 and the revocation of driver's license.
Meanwhile, Calderon said that they will also strengthen the apprehension of motorists who are putting "unnecessary lights" in their vehicles.
"Unnecessary lights are prohibited. Only manufactured lights placed are allowed," she said.
Another apprehension, said Calderon, are for the "tampering of plates or improper attachment of stickers that makes the plate number look different."
"Daghan nagreklamo na dili na sila makakita ug tarung sa plates dayon inig ma-hit and run dili na nila magukod (So many have complained that they could no longer see the plates and when there's a hit-and-run, it would be difficult to trace)," she said.
Calderon added penalties for the unnecessary lights and tampering of plates are P1,000 and P5,000, respectively.
