Davao dengue cases drop

THE Department of Health (DOH) in Davao Region reported a 27.1 percent decrease in dengue cases as of October 9.

Data showed that dengue cases in the region dropped from 9,438 last October 9, 2013 to 6,881 cases in the same period this year.

Also in the same period, the number of deaths dropped to 39 this year from 59 last year.

The deaths recorded were mostly coming from the five to nine years old age group in the region.

Among the provinces, Davao City had the highest number of dengue cases recorded with a total of 4,657 cases, followed by Davao Oriental with 840 cases, Davao del Norte with 552 cases, Compostela Valley with 544 cases, and Davao del Sur with 288 cases.

For Davao City, the highest concentration of dengue cases came from Talomo North and Talomo South with 968 and 728 dengue cases reported, respectively.

Mary Divene Hilario, unit head of Health Education and Promotion Section of DOH-Davao, said in a phone interview that they are continuing their interventions in order to further prevent dengue cases in the region.
