‘Acetylene gang’ strikes again in Bogo City

A SECURITY guard was wounded after unidentified robbers broke into the Super Metro Bogo in Sitio Cantecson, Barangay Gairan, Bogo City, Cebu.

The victim was identified as 31-year-old Jerwin Estoya.

Supt. Germano Mallari, chief of Bogo Police, said they believe the robbers belong to the acetylene gang based on the items they left behind inside the mall.

The men allegedly rented a stall at the back of the mall last Oct. 16.

Modus operandi

Soon after moving in, they must have started digging the hole they used to enter the establishment after midnight yesterday, Mallari said.

According to the time stamp of the security camera, the robbers got in at 12:44 a.m.

They then proceeded to the bills and payments counter where they encountered Estoya.

“Wala ni magtuo ang mga kawatan nga dunay security guard diay sa sulod (They never thought there’d be a security guard inside),” said Mallari in a phone interview.

Seized items

One of the robbers struck Estoya’s head with a steel bar.

Mallari said they must have panicked after that since they left their equipment behind.

Estoya was able to alert the other security guards.

Police recovered a hand drill, three drill bits, a hydraulic jack, a wood saw, an angle ruler, screwdriver, gloves, diagonal cutting pliers, a grinder and 12 grinder blades.

They also found a multi-purpose cutter, a set of cutting outfit that included a gauge, two headlights, a jack saw handle, three assorted bags, two steel bars and grey cargo shorts.

Mallari said the robbers weren’t able to steal anything, based on the inventory conducted by store manager Ricky Tulda after the incident.

Police will still have to enhance the quality of the security footage to check if they can identify the robbers.

As of yesterday, police still didn’t know who they are.
