City joins campaign vs spread of Ebola virus

THE Iloilo City Government and the City Health Office (CHO) joined the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Department of Health in a worldwide campaign for health advisory on Ebola virus control.

Dr. Mae Delmo, of the CHO, said the campaign will cover citywide information drive, health tips and other useful information to protect the family and community from the spread of Ebola virus.

The World Health Organization has warned on the epidemic, which already killed more than 4,000 and affected more than 5,000 people in different parts of the world, especially in the African nations.

Delmo said although there is no Ebola case yet in the Philippines, the country is susceptible to the virus, as many overseas Filipinos are working in Africa and the United States.

The country has open direct flights from other countries, and Iloilo has direct flights to Singapore and Hong Kong which are the major stopovers of OFW and tourists from African nations and the US.

Delmo said they are now campaigning for healthful tips for the barangay people. The "Do tips" include always washing hands with soap and water; cooking food properly; going to health facility anytime one has a headache, fever, pain, diarrhea, red eyes and vomiting; and calling telephone number 3331111 local 211 or local 707 for help.
