Buzz: Breast awareness month

A PRICEY club in a city in Cebu recently implemented a policy allowing female guests who do not wear bras to go through its doors free of charge.

The club says the policy is part of their contribution to the breast cancer awareness program. Many women welcomed the idea because to get a table at the club, one has to shell out P4,000.

Would the policy succeed in raising awareness among the young kids of the rich and the influential who consider the club as a favorite hangout?

Some sectors, however, see the policy differently. “It’s a marketing ploy. It offers another attraction to young boys with raging hormones,” a Bzzzzz source said.

Uninformed commentary

A reporter overheard a jeepney passenger grumbling about the traffic on S. Osmeña Blvd. to her companion, “Ka-traffic na ba dire. Unya ang mayor magsige lang og larga, wala jud atimana ang traffic. Kani sang media, ang suwaton ang larga ra sa mayor, dili jud ang traffic!”

The reporter was so close to butting in: “Excuse me, the media has been reporting about the road-widening and possible traffic problem on S. Osmeña Blvd. since March. Maybe you weren’t acquainted with the newspaper then?”

Who’ll police the police?

THE police are mandated to enforce the law, fight crime and protect the citizenry. But what happens when the police are involved in crime?

In Bohol, an ex-policeman was identified as one of the top man in a group involved in illegal drugs trade. The former cop was allegedly involved in the ambush of a town police chief. The former police officer was later killed in a shootout with law enforcers tasked to arrest him and his cohorts.

The ex-cop was reportedly undeterred by the magnitude 7.2 earthquake last Oct. 15, 2013. He continued to distribute illegal drugs.

In Cebu, some law enforcers are allegedly protecting drug peddlers. The crooked men in uniform reportedly visit a subdivision before dawn during certain days of the week to collect their fee.
