THREE gunmen have divested the passengers of an inter-provincial bus of more than P60,000 cash and valuable in a highway robbery in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Sunday.
Chief Inspector Rogelio Alabata, Zamboanga Peninsula Police Office information officer, said the incident occurred around 5:15 a.m. Saturday along the national highway in the village of President Roxas, R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Prior to the incident, Alabata said the victims were traveling from Zamboanga City to Dipolog City aboard a passenger bus of the Rural Transit of Mindanao Incorporated (RTMI).
Alabata said three passengers, who turned out to be holdup suspects, boarded the bus with body number 10241 driven by Nilo Solis when they passed by the Integrated Bus Terminal in the town of Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Alabata added the three suspects were subsequently issued tickets bound for Ipil, the capital of Zamboanga Sibugay, by the bus conductor.
However, he said the suspects, armed with calibers .45 pistol, .38 revolver, and a knife, declared the heist when the bus reached the village of President Roxas, R.T. Lim town.
He said they ordered Solis to stop the bus and divested all the people aboard of more or less P13,000 cash and personal belonging with an estimated worth of P51,000.
He said further investigation showed that one of the suspects fired his caliber .38 revolver into the air when they disembarked and fled bringing along their loot.
He said the R.T. Lim police are conducting follow-up investigation to possibly identify the suspects based on the descriptions given them by the victims.
