Sungduan: Act of kindness

THE dream of the administrators, faculty, and students of a public high school in Tuba, Benguet to have their own library may soon be realized.

Evelio Javier National High School Principal Macarty Malanes said plans are now underway to pursue this long time goal by first sourcing out funds for the construction of the needed structure which is very important to the students’ growth and development.

Malanes said the more than a thousand books donated by the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of the Cordilleras to their school on October 23 are very essential in their efforts in developing the knowledge, skills, and values of the students.

UC CAS Dean Dr. Miriam Janeo spearheaded the book donation activity together with CAS community extension program coordinator Corazon Ciriaco and some faculty. This was immediately followed by the signing of a memorandum of agreement signifying the beginning of a strong partnership between UC CAS and EJNHS and the former’s commitment to give back to the community.

“Our linkage with the university is part of the efforts of the school to seek partnership with supportive institutions,” Malanes said acknowledging the immediate support given to them by the said university.

A seminar workshop followed with 30 young student journalists benefiting from the lecture on Clear and Effective Newswriting and Newsgathering facilitated by a faculty from the Language and Communication Department. This will prepare the students in their upcoming school paper competition.

Today, November 7 is the set schedule for the part 2 of the Journalism Seminar/Workshop for EJNHS campus journalists with UC proud product former Sun.Star Baguio reporter JM Agreda and Sports writer Mark Victor Pasagoy as lecturers. Agreda will talk on “The Effective Style of Feature Writing and Writing Science and Health Issues while Pasagoy will talk on Sports Writing.

Always show an act of kindness by lending a hand to the community in our own little way. Let us go extra mile in helping the students deepen their learning and skills in the field of their interest.
