Uy's son withdraws COC for councilor

A SON of first district Representative Rolando "Klarex" Uy has dropped out of the race for a City Council seat two days after filing his Certificate of Candidacy (COC), leaving Uy and another son, Barangay Carmen councilman Rainier Joaquin "Kikang" Uy, as candidates for the city’s elective posts.

There was no explanation given why Roland Sherwin Uy, who filed his COC as an independent candidate for the City Council on October 13, withdrew his candidacy.

Shiela Lumbatan, the elder Uy’s chief of staff, did not provide details regarding the son’s backing out of the electoral race, saying it is up to the Congressman, the family’s patriarch, to explain.

Congressman Uy earlier said that he has no intention of perpetuating a political dynasty.

The congressman’s wife, Lorna Uy, is the village chief of Barangay Carmen, the Uys political bailiwick.

A son, Kikang Uy, is running for vice mayor under the Liberal Party.

Meanwhile, 79 individuals are seeking various elective posts in the city, according to the number of COCs filed at the Commission on Elections.

Of the 79, six are running for mayor, 3 for vice mayor, 8 for the two Congressional Districts, and 61 for the City Council.
