Aquino: Ona’s absence won’t affect campaign vs Ebola

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III said Friday that the government's campaign against Ebola virus could not be affected even with the absence of Health Secretary Enrique Ona.

Except for Ona, Aquino said that all other Health experts are present.

"No, the experts are still present. To a large degree, except for Secretary Ona, all the rest of the team are present. So these are the experts that our country has that have been trained, etcetera, etcetera; and they are the ones who actually operationalizing all the concepts, all of the necessary activities, etcetera," he said when asked if government's preparation against Ebola would be affected without Ona.

The Health chief has been on a month-long leave of absence after Aquino ordered him to prepare a report regarding the vaccination campaign of the government.

Health Undersecretary Janette Garin is the DOH's officer-in-charge.

Garin presented on Friday in front of the President and the members of the media at Villamor Airbase the preparations that the DOH has been implementing to ensure that Ebola virus would not spread in the Philippines. (SDR/Sunnex)
