PMSEA mulls upgrade

PHILIPPINE Mining Safety and Environment Association is willing to adopt and improve a portion of the Mines View Park.

PMSEA president Louie Sarmiento shared this in response to Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan's suggestion for PMSEA to adopt an area in Mines View Park like they did in Botanical Garden.

In his weekly press forum last week, Domogan expressed gratitude and lauded the efforts of PMSEA in developing a 1,500 square meter portion of the Botanical Garden into a garden haven.

In the past years, their planting of pine tree seedlings and endemic plants have greatly contributed to the beautification and rehabilitation of the portion.

He then suggested for the association to do the same at the Mines View Park to make it more appealing to tourists.

Sarmiento during the forum yesterday welcomed the suggestion stressing they are more than willing to help in Mines View Park's improvement.

He said they will coordinate with the city government to conceptualize the park’s development in line with what the city wants to do in the area.

Sarmiento shared Domogan noted there could be a tunnel like in Balatoc Mines in Benguet where people may visit and be educated about the mining history and industry in the city and in the province of Benguet.

Aside from the contribution it may bring to the tourism industry in the city, Sarmiento said this may be a good venue for the public to gain more knowledge about the industry which is usually misunderstood as something destructive to the environment.

He added they can also highlight why the park is called "Mines View" so people can better appreciate it.

Furthermore, the PMSEA president highlighted the rehabilitation and improvement efforts for the Botanical Garden will continue.

"We'll continue with that, and hopefully the city government will help us sustain it," he closed.
