Sungduan: Linkage

YOUNG members of media in Baguio linked up with the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of the Cordilleras for the conduct of the Part II Series of Journalism Seminar/Workshop attended by almost 50 students from the Evelio Javier Memorial National High School in Camp 6 Tuba, Benguet.

In just a single text 9TV journalist JM Agreda and SunStar Baguio reporter Mark Victor Pasagoy immediately responded to the invitation of their alma mater to be partners for the said undertaking for free.

Agreda facilitated the lecture on the topics Writing Feature Story and Health while Pasagoy talked about Sports Writing and Photojournalism that helped the students understand and appreciate more about the concept of journalism.

The project aims to help the young student journalists to be more competent in writing news stories for their campus paper and assist them as they prepare for the upcoming school paper competition to be held this month.

EJMNHS headed by Principal Macarty Malanes is the newest adopted school of UC CAS. The partnership of the two schools started right after the signing of a memorandum of agreement on October 23 with Dean Miriam Janeo and Malanes as the signatories.

"EJMNHS has embraced our university wholeheartedly,” said by Community Extension Program Coordinator Corazon Ciriaco who proudly added that Malanes and most of the teachers of EJMNHS are graduates of UC.

From the book donation to journalism seminar/workshop, UC CAS also intends to conduct an enhancement program in Mathematics, English, and Journalism for the said school. Another important program is the scheduled seminar-workshop on moral recovery of students.

Partnerships and linkages are very important factors for the success of any community based activity. The warm respond of the alumni of UC CAS for project partnerships is something to be thankful and proud of.
