DAVID Pomeranz certainly feels the love every time he visits the Philippines, which comes as no surprise seeing as every performance of his never fails to captivate the hearts of many Filipino fans. Last Saturday, Cebuanos got to relive that magic as the crooner performed live at Ayala Center Cebu during the mall’s anniversary sale.
Fans gathered at The Terraces in anticipation. As he emerged and began the night with one of his hit tracks Got to Believe in Magic, everyone was enthralled; a reaction which David always looks forward to every time he performs in Cebu. “They’re adorable, and I don’t use that in a derogatory way. Adorable, meaning there is a kind of loveliness and sweetness. I feel that as a performer, so I like to sing more beautifully for them because they give that to me,” he said.
David recalls the first time he visited the country and found it to be such a great experience. “The first time I came here many years ago was very memorable because it was so huge when Born For You and Got To Believe in Magic had come out, so that was very exciting.” With Cebu, he not only looks forward to the supportive fans, but also to the picturesque metropolis. “I like being here. I have several friends. The food is good. I like the hotels. It’s an upscale sort of cool place in every way. I love Cebu,” he exclaimed.
Performing for the second time in Ayala Center Cebu, Pomeranz shares that aside from vocal exercises, he eats a lot of protein before he performs, and shares a trick he learned from Scientology which he practices: “There are some techniques that I use to actually arrive. You know how sometimes if you’re with somebody and you’re sort of spaced out, and you’re not there and you wish you could be there? Well, there are certainly very simple techniques like looking around, looking at things that bring me here. I do that before I go out so that when I’m there, I’m actually there.” When asked if he still gets jittery before every show, he admitted: “Sometimes. It’s the fear of the unknown, you know. Every audience is different.”
But all that changes as his fear drifts knowing the crowd is having fun and singing along to his songs such as Undying Admiration and of course everyone’s favorite, Born For You, which he belted during his concert. With the holidays fast approaching, David plans to spend Christmas with his wife and son here in the Philippines.
There’s no telling when he’ll be back to sing live here in Cebu. Until then, he parts with this message to his beloved Cebuano fans, “I adore you!”
