WWII photo exhibit opens in Adivay

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET - The Philippine Veterans Bank joins the province of Benguet in celebrating its 114th founding anniversary by sharing the stories of the past World War with its award-winning Traveling Exhibit entitled “War of Our Fathers”.

The PVB and the Veterans Foundation of the Philippines, in partnership with the provincial government of Benguet, opened the exhibit dedicated to the WWII veterans at the Benguet Provincial Capitol Monday.

Governor Nestor Fongwan led Benguet officials in the ribbon-cutting ceremony with PVB officials headed by Executive Vice President and Branch Banking Group head Jesus Vicente Garcia, VP and Corporate Communications head Miguel Angelo Villa-Real, AVP and North Luzon Area head Paul Tuazon, and PVB–Baguio Branch Manager Danilo Romero.

The PVB WWII Traveling Exhibit has been sharing its message of patriotism and heroism since 2006 and has been to over 50 cities and municipalities across the nation.

It has been displayed in museums, schools, public edifices, and malls seen by thousands.

In 2009, upon the invitation of the local government of Nanjing, the “War of Our Fathers” exhibit was mounted at the Nanjing War Memorial Museum.

The exhibit is for the Benguet people, especially the young generation, to experience what World War II was like up close through several panels of wartime photographs and memorabilia.

It also features photos and stories of local heroes.

Highlight of the exhibit is a panel depicting Baguio City and Benguet during the Japanese occupation in the 1940s until the liberation in 1945.

In September, the exhibit was also displayed at the Baguio Convention Lobby as part of the 105th Charter Anniversary of Baguio City.

The WWII Traveling Exhibit is to the public until December 1, 2014.

From Benguet, the exhibit will move to Dagupan City to end its 2014 tour. (Redjie Melvic Cawis)
