Car blazes in NLEX

APALIT -- Authorities battled Monday a car fire in a portion of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Apalit, Pampanga.

The blaze not only destroyed the vehicle but also shut down the Manila-bound traffic for about an hour.

Car owner Teddy Reyes said he rushed his relatives out of the vehicle as soon as he noticed that smoke billowed from the passenger seat.

The cause of the fire is believed to be due to faulty wiring.

"We were about to go to Manila. As soon as we passed by San Simon, the car started to emit smoke and fire," said Reyes.

Reyes shared that he bought the car in Subic three years ago for

P380, 000. The wiring of the car was recently damaged but was fixed in a car repair shop in the City of San Fernando.

The road was cleared at around 1 p.m. after it had been blocked for an hour.

No injuries or other property damages were reported.
