Neighborhood karaoke

WITH most leisure establishments concentrated in the northern part of Cebu City, it’s always exciting to see a restaurant, a bar, or in this case, a karaoke place open down south.

Located midway along R. Duterte St. in Banawa, Cebu City, D’Voice KTV & Grill makes it much more convenient for residents in the surrounding areas to have their quick fix of barbecue and drinks—and of course—of no-holds-barred, audacious singing.

Co-owned and managed by the same family that started the thriving Gimik KTV chain, D’Voice KTV & Grill as the name implies, is an al fresco resto-bar and karaoke place rolled into one. On the ground floor is the dining area that can accommodate roughly up to a 100, while on the second floor are its 23 enclosed karaoke rooms.

Casual, laid-back and no frills. Manager Feebie Rian Dy easily cites three things on why people should go there: first, the open area that makes it seemingly spacious and refreshing; next, its spacious parking area; and lastly being located in a residential area with lesser traffic makes it easily accessible. The last two—anybody who regularly goes out on a Saturday night would surely appreciate.

Feebie says that three out of its 23 karaoke rooms can accommodate up to 20 persons while the rest can hold up to 10. The rooms are just as spacious as its exteriors, and have karaoke systems that are regularly updated with the latest tracks, much to the delight of the frustrated—and admittedly oftentimes off-key—Ed Sheerans and Ariana Grandes of this age.

“The sounds are great; there’s party light for dancing,” Feebie adds. “You can also watch movies inside the rooms, and next month we will start our Xbox Kinect for gaming.”

On the dining side, D’Voice offers main course meals and bar chow ranging from the grilled variety to fried, to silog and kinilaw. Some of its specialties are the crispy pata, pork belly, pochero and sisig. As for beverages, it has choices of fruit shakes and sodas, and as expected, a wide array of liquor, both bottled and mixed.

Although it has clearly become a go-to recreational joint in its neighborhood (minus the occasional ruckus for the mic) since it opened in December last year, D’Voice KTV has gathered more than its area’s nearby dwellers. Casual and unassuming, it has gathered diners and divas from all over town that are simply out to unwind with a drink, a song, or both.
