Davao exports up 26 percent in Q2

DAVAO Region registered total exports of P29.34 billion during the second quarter of the present year, representing an increase of 26 percent as compared to the same period last year with P23.25 billion.

Based on data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), agricultural commodities dominated the top ten most exported products, led by banana and coconut.

Fresh or dried bananas, including plantains, topped the list of being the most exported commodity from Davao Region at $355.68 million, from April to June of this year.

Japan is the major export destination for the commodity at $108.35 million, followed by New Zealand ($69.1 million), China ($64.81 million), South Korea ($41.61 million), and United Arab Emirates ($13.87 million).

Coming in second are coconut (copra), palm kernel or babassu oil and its fractions at $111.83 million. Netherlands is the top export destination for the commodity at $52.42 million, it is followed by the United States ($45.76 million), Malaysia ($7.65 million), China ($1.35 million), and Taiwan ($1.32 million).

Rounding up the top three are fresh or dried coconuts, brazil nuts, and cashew nuts at $36.73 million. The United States is the top export destination for the commodity at $6.87 million, it is followed by Netherlands ($5.33 million), China ($2.73 million), United Kingdom ($2.49 million), and Singapore ($2.23 million).

Also among the top ten most exported products from the region are: fresh or dried dates, figs, pineapples, avocados, guavas, mangoes, and mangosteens ($30.16 million); fruits, nuts and other edible parts of plants ($19.68 million); activated carbon, activated natural mineral products, animal black ($13.25 million); natural rubber, balata, gutta-percha, guayule, chicle, and similar natural gums ($10.96 million); oil-cake and other residues ($8.52 million); vegetables, fruits, nuts, fruit-peel, and other parts of plants ($8.1 million); and animal or vegetable fats and oils and their fractions ($7.16 million).

Export markets included Japan, New Zealand, China, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, United States, Malaysia, Taiwan, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Singapore, and Germany, among others.
