Dole’s ‘Tupad’ beneficiaries get salaries

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Some 300 beneficiaries of the Department of Labor and Employment's (Dole) "Tulong Alalay para sa mga Disadvantaged Workers" (Tupad) received their wages Monday during the kick-off events of the Pampanga Day celebrations.

The Tupad is one of the flagship programs under the Dole Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP).

The program featured community work for the beneficiaries who came from San Simon, Masantol and Candaba towns who rendered service for 10 days and were paid P3,360 each for their services. The basis for the selection was based on the beneficiaries' economic background and the town from which they came from.

Earlier, Dole Regional Director Ana Dione said Central Luzon is one of the regions that has always been plagued by a number of typhoons and other natural calamities, which, aside from suffering damaged lands and properties, has made a lot of self-employed workers, including farmers and fisher folks, helpless and unemployed.

The DoLE budgeted P32,425,120 for the implementation of the Tupad Program, which covers wages, personal protective equipment and insurance coverage of all 7,012 Tupad beneficiaries. This, however, excludes the one percent administrative cost.

DoLE's local government unit counterparts, meanwhile, will be providing a 20 percent equity, equivalent to P8,106,280 for hand tools, equipment, monitoring and supervision.

Governor Lilia Pineda and Vice-Governor Dennis Pineda personally handed the wages of the 300 beneficiaries at the Capitol grounds.
