De Leon: The advent of great things to come

ADVENT is the beginning of a new liturgical year and encompasses the span of time from the fourth Sunday before Christmas, until the nativity of our Lord is celebrated.

It is during this time that we joyfully prepare to be worthy and celebrate the anniversary of the Lord's coming into the world. This remembrance takes many forms and is always in joyful mood and filled with festive vibe as shown in the decors we put in our homes and perimeters, but also in all preparations and activities.

It is no secret that December is the busiest time of the year for the City of Baguio including hospitality and tourism establishments. As of this writing, we have seen the Christmas Lighting Ceremony in various properties, including BCC. Silahis ng Pasko kicks off on December 1, spearheaded by the City, and for the academe comes the anticipated Lantern and Torch Parade by SLU, as well as various events and parties hosted by the business and private sector in their own establishments.

As for the BCC and Camp John Hay, we are on the second week of the Regulars' Fil am Invitational Golf tourney. We have a full house participation in the Championship flights. What is interesting is that we have two 13 year olds and a 14 year old heading this Championship division with single digit handicaps. They are the golf leaders of the future for this country. We shall be having our Annual Propietary Members Annual meeting today, December 2 and Inaugurate and bless the New Verandah. I invite all to come and visit our newly renovated and modernized with a touch of the old Club and experience our traditional service committed to excellence. We renovated 5 cottages and the Main kitchen will complete its rehab by the third week of this month,. Hopefully in time for the Christmas crowd. Indeed, December is the best time of the year for our City.

Let us not forget, that while we are all wrapped up in our plans, shopping, and preparations surrounded by all the cacophony of the Holiday season – let us not forget the reason for the season. The joyous preparation must complement our prayerful and spiritual preparation as well as our capacity to extend help and generosity to the less fortunate.

In so doing, I enjoin practitioners in the industry, fellow residents and guests, to ensure not only that guest’s experience in Baguio exceed expectations, but also to ensure a safe, green and peaceful conduct of activities and events. We enjoin you all to participate in the festivities and promote them either via social media or by inviting your families, relatives and friends to enjoy the best of the season here in Baguio.

Regardless from what sector you are in, whether from Baguio or BLISTT area, let us make each guest feel the warmth of our hospitality in despite the chilly weather.
