MMFF movies next week

I TURNED green with envy when I saw on Facebook the photo of Alan Tangcawan, photographer of this paper and its sister, Superbalita, proudly posing with Isabelle Daza after a press con at a restaurant in Mabolo.

I had to beg off from the invitation of GMA 7’s I-Joy Abarquez for the press con last Sunday, for the reason that I was still in my hometown doing some housekeeping chores after the annual fiesta.

Isabelle was in town with Dingdong Dantes to promote their starrer Kubot. That event was Isabelle’s last with the Kapuso Network, as she has already jumped to the rival network.

Speaking of press cons, especially on the entries to the coming Metro Manila Film Festival, the promo diva, Josie Pereyra of JSP Ads and Promotions “booked” us as early as a month or so ago for the press cons of three Star Cinema entries, namely: My Big Bossing, The Amazing Praybet Benjamin and Feng Shui 2.

The press con for My Big Bossing was held yesterday. Bossing himself, Vic Sotto, promised to promote the movie personally. As of this writing, however, it was not yet sure if Rhyzza Mae Dizon can make it.

My Big Bossing is about a fish dealer (Vic) whose goddaughterJessa (Rhyzza) feels envious of his own daughter Vanna who, as a cosplayer, had many costumes that somehow help the child transform into a fantasy character.

The conflict came when Jessa got her wish to become a mermaid, and her wish was heard by a crone called Tandang Wishy, who was more than eager to grant children’s wishes. For every wish that she grants, she reverts to her young and beautiful self.

As to how Bossing helped Jessa go back to her human form after suffering pain and fear of losing contact with the real world, is for movie lovers to find out come Dec. 25.

As to the outcome of the press con, I’ll give you a glimpse next time.

Today, Vice Ganda will personally promote his movie, The Amazing Praybet Benjamin, which is the fulfillment of the ending of the first movie which gave a hint of a Part 2.

The trailer says that the movie details the return of the greatest soldier of the country, Praybet Benjamin himself.

Movie goers will find out if he was able to sustain or even surpass what he attained before in the second installment, which opens on Christmas day itself, Dec. 25.

As to how the loquacious and inquisitive TV host parried the questions of the Cebu media, I’ll tell you next time.

As if she knows I won’t be around for the press con of her movie (weeey!), Kris Aquino won’t be able to come to Cebu this weekend, thus the cancellation.

The movie is Star Cinema’s answer to the wish of those who saw the original Feng Shui movie for a sequel that is as or much more hair-raising and jolting as the first installment.

Kris is proud to announce in her TV shows that she feels so proud of co-star Coco Martin for not only giving justice to his role as he usually does in his projects, but also contributing ideas to make the scenes more scary especially the ending.

Come opening day, the movie that gathers the shortest queue of movie goers gets my patronage. The rest will have to wait for the succeeding days. Whew!

Along with fellow government workers, Eli Tecson of the Department of Trade and Industry and Ferliza Contratista of the Philippine Information Agency, I sat as judge in the opening of the Christmas Bazaar 2014 in Danao City last Monday.

Eli, a tourism officer and I judged the exhibit booths while Ferlilou, Pepe Sollano and an award-winning artist judged the lanterns. The bazaar was a collective effort of the city officials, led by Mayor Nito Durano and Vice Mayor Red Durano.

A fireworks display and a live band performance were among the features of the event. It was obvious that the Danaoanons and those from nearby areas were pleased and delighted that night.

It’s a clever way for Ayala Cinemas to flash only the lyrics of the Lupang Hinirang the way videoke lyrics are done on sing-along machines. So far, I haven’t been inside an SM City cinema recently.

On two screenings, I noticed that people participated in the singing, unlike when the national anthem is played with the vocals. Imaginative.
