75 firecracker vendors obtain permits

SEVENTY-FVIVE firecracker vendors are now processing the issuance of their retailer’s permits from the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).

Supt. Noel Polines, head of BCPO Operations Branch, yesterday said the firecracker vendors applied for permits with BCPO’s Firearm Explosives Security Agency and Guards Section (Fesags) and their documents will be forwarded to the Police Regional Office-6 for the approval of regional director Chief Supt. Josephus Angan.

He said most of the applicants have already complied with the requirements and they can display their products at the identified firecrackers zone along Pope John Paul II Tower at the Reclamation Area after they have received their retailer’s permit.

For the issuance of the retailer’s permit, the applicants are also required to obtain business permit from the City Permits and Licensing Division, Polines said.

The BCPO and personnel of Bureau of Fire Protection will also conduct a series of inspection in the different stalls to ensure the safety of public.

Polines said that those who fail to secure a retailer’s permit will not be allowed to display their products.

He said all the station commanders were directed to monitor their respective areas of jurisdiction and to confiscate the illegal firecrackers or pyrotechnics displayed in public markets, malls and stores.

Those who will be arrested will be charged for illegal selling and will pay the corresponding penalties, Polines added.

Polines said the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) also informed them that the products of the firecracker retailers should have a Philippine Standard (PS) mark to ensure the safety of the public.

He added that vendors are allowed to display locally made firecrackers like small triangles, paper caps, and kwitis. For pyrotechnics, only sparklers, fountains, airwolf and whistle devices are allowed.
