NegOcc no longer best performing province in WV

NEGROS Occidental failed in its bid to become a Hall of Famer for the second time in Region 6’s Excellence in Local Governance (Excell) Awards after losing its Best Performing Province title to Iloilo this year.

After winning in 2012 and 2013, Negros Occidental was poised to be elevated to the Hall of Fame, but this year’s award went to Iloilo instead.

During the Pagdayaw 2014 awarding rites of the Department of Interior and Local Government-Western Visayas (DILG-6) held Tuesday in Iloilo City, Negros Occidental settled for first runner-up honors, winning in only one out of five categories.

Iloilo was adjudged champion in Administrative Governance, Economic Governance, Social Governance, and Environmental Governance while Negros Occidental topped Valuing Fundamentals of Good Governance.

Ma. Lina Sanogal, provincial planning and development coordinator of Negros Occidental, said that she is also glad for Iloilo’s achievement.

“Negros Occidental has set a very high standard. Overall, the province was first-runner up. It is still a good achievement,” she said.

Sanogal added, “I’m interested to know what programs propelled them (to win) since they are not as competitive as before.”

In 2008, Negros Occidental was the first to win as Best Performing Province. It won again in the next two years and was declared Hall of Famer in 2011.

Negros Occidental also won the award in 2012 and 2013.

Sanogal said that in the Social Governance category, Iloilo was recognized for its innovation in its medical mission program besting Negros’s initiatives such as the Negros Occidental Comprehensive Health Program and the Provincial Peace Integration and Development Unit.

In 2013, the Capitol released P20,000 each to its employees as incentive bonus after Negros Occidental was named Best Performing Province in the region. (NLG)
