HE NEVER dreamed to become a policeman, but it was fate that took him to his post now. This is how Police Officer 2 (PO2) Simon Peter Porlares Cunanan, the Bunawan Police Station’s Dashboard in-charge, described his admission to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Cunanan is already six years in the service. For him, to be part of the organization is a challenge and very rewarding at the same time. He said although being a policeman is not easy but never had he thought of quitting.
“I am contented with my job. I’m grateful to have a chance to be part of this kind of service, to serve and protect the public, it’s an achievement that one could not attain without dedication to his job,” Cunanan said.
Born in Davao City in October 1979, Cunanan completed his degree of Bachelor of Science in Marketing at the University of Mindanao in 2001. He entered in the PNP service after he worked at the Sumifru (Philippines) Corporation from 2003 to 2009.
“Umabot sa time na kinakailangan na magbawas ng tao ang kumpanya na pinagtatrabahuan ko noon, at isa ako dun sa mga tinanggal. But I didn’t hold any grudge against the company. In fact, it was a blessing to me. Eligible naman ako for government work so I grabbed the chance to be a policeman,” Cunanan said.
Cunanan was first assigned as rifle man of the Regional Mobile Group (RMG) in 2011. He was transferred to Davao City Police Office’s Public Safety Command (DCPSC) as radio operator in 2012. Then in 2013, he was designated as mobile crew at the Bunawan Police Station for two months.
After two months, he was assigned as operations assistant for Police Non-Commission Officer (PNCO) at the same station until he became the Dashboard in-charge, which Cunanan is grateful for the experience he had with his job every day.
Cunanan is proud to heed the concerns of the public, as his work will always be his priority… And though schedules have been hectic, he said, he make it sure he leads a balanced life and attend the needs of his family.
