Task group rescues passenger-cargo vessel

THE military's Joint Task Group Sulu (JTGS) has rescued in Sulu Sea a passenger-cargo vessel loaded with fuel and with 17 people aboard, an official said.

Brigadier General Alan Arrojado, JTGS commander, said the wooden-hulled vessel, M/L TJ, was rescued around 7:10 p.m. Thursday off Sulu.

The rescue came after Sulu second district Representative Habib Tupay Loong requested the JTGS to provide assistance to the vessel in distress.

Arrojado said the vessel drifted in the Sulu Sea as its engine malfunctioned while sailing from Zamboanga City to Tumbagaaan Mining in the municipality of Languyan, Tawi-Tawi.

The vessel, owned by Najib Juljani and skippered by Razu Ragba, departed Zamboanga City around 4 a.m. Thursday. It was then towed by the Multi-Purpose Attack Craft of the task groups' Naval Task Unit to the port of Jolo.

Arrojado said the vessel arrived at the Jolo port around 9 p.m.
