Barrita: Merry Christmas

CEBU City’s some 60,000 senior citizens received Monday their P3,000 cash assistance in time for the Christmas celebration.

But they were not given the full P5,000 remaining balance for their total of P12,000 cash aid for this year.

They still have P2,000 left to be given in early January, but it’s still a merry Christmas for the city’s senior citizens.

The Cebu City Council has approved the P13.4-billion budget ordinance of the Cebu City Government for 2015.

This is the biggest annual budget of the city so far which, Cebu City Councilor Margot Osmena, finance committee chair, said is bigger than the annual budgets of Makati and Manila.

It’s a merry Christmas for Cebu City.

But wait. Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama is planning to sue the majority members of the City Council who are Bando Osmena Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) members for “clipping” the hands of the mayor in some budget provisions.

Among the conditions is that some projects charged to the P4.5 billion in capital outlay will only be implemented once certain lots in the South Road Properties (SRP) are sold.

If there’d be fireworks displays in City Hall during Christmas and New Year, expect more fireworks next year.

Christmas is a season of merriment, with parties here and there and food and drinks galore.

Health officials warned Filipinos to eat and drink in moderation because too much eating and drinking can lead to heart attacks, strokes and diabetes.

Be merry, not sorry this Christmas. To one and all, a Merry Christmas!
