'Yellow' rain alert raised over Metro Manila

MANILA (Updated) - The state weather bureau issued a yellow rainfall alert over Metro Manila and neighboring provinces on Wednesday.

In its 12 p.m. bulletin Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the areas under yellow alert status include Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Quezon, Bulacan and Bataan.

Pagasa said a yellow alert means heavy rain is seen over the affected areas in one hour and expected to continue in the next two hours. Flooding in low lying areas is also possible.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rains affecting Pampanga, NuevaEcija, Tarlac and Zambales may persist for three hours.

Light to moderate rains affecting Cebu (Camotes Islands), Negros Oriental (La Libertad, Himalalud); Leyte (Tabango, Jaro, Babatngon), Samar (Catbalogan, San Jorge, Tarangnan, Marabut) and nearby areas may continue for one to two hours.

Pagasa said there are no tropical cyclones inside the Philippine area of responsibility. The rains are due to the tail-end of a cold front.

The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to monitor the weather condition and watch for the next advisory to be issued at 3 p.m. Wednesday. (Sunnex)
