Cops arrest NPA rebel

A NEW People’s Army (NPA) rebel was arrested at a public market in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police said Wednesday.

Police Regional Office information officer Inspector Dahlan Samuddin identified the arrested NPA rebel as Joel Gumactang alias Ka Efren, 30, a member of the NPA’s Front Committee Feliciano B.

Samuddin said Gumactang was arrested around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday by virtue of a warrant of arrest for the crime of frustrated murder with P200,000 recommended bail.

Samuddin said Gumactang was on marketing “for their consumption in the mountain” when the policemen chanced upon him at the public market of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte.

Gumacatang is a resident of the village of Mawal, Sindangan town.

Samuddin said the arresting policemen have recovered from the possession of Gumactang list of assorted goods, school ID of Lipa City Colleges and P2,400 cash.

Gumacatang is temporarily detained at Sindangan Municipal Police Station for proper disposition, said Samuddin.
