Provincial government aids flood affected Candaba

CANDABA -- The provincial government of Pampanga, neighboring towns, and the Philippine Navy Rescue Team have joined forces to aid this town which suffered massive flooding due to Typhoon Lando (international name: Koppu).

Governor Lilia Pineda and Vice Governor Dennis Pineda regularly visit the municipalities devastated by the recent typhoon including Candaba to check the situation and provide relief goods to affected families.

On Monday, the governor and the vice governor were stranded in Poblacion area for eight hours due to fallen trees and electric posts that blocked flooded roads.

The municipality of Apalit, under Pampanga Mayor's League president Oscar "Jun" Tetangco, also sent two dump trucks daily for "libreng sakay" operations and transfer of relief goods.

Three military trucks, rubber boats and manpower were provided for the provincial government's relief and rescue operations.

The local government here, headed by Mayor Rene Maglanque, continues to go around the municipality to provide families with rice, canned goods and noodles.

Maglanque had already asked the government to speed up the construction of the cut-off channel bridge in Poblacion to make the area passable.

As of Friday, all 33 barangays of the town are still submerged in water as water from the Pampanga River continues to overflow.

Residents of Barangay Sto. Rosario, who are still in chest-deep flood, said that this is the "worst flooding" they have experienced in recent years.
