Christmas brings love and humor

THE Women in Travel would gather annually to celebrate the birth of Christ and to celebrate the gift of life and love to one another and the community.

These annual gatherings are always looked forward to. The past years, there have been theme parties. From International to Hollywood to Africa, these parties turn to hilarious events.

This year’s theme was the 1950s—Come in your pedal pushers, your full balloon skirts, be Marilyn Monroe or Lucille Ball. Slowly, the members came in their rolled up pants, their flat shoes with socks, some came with gloves and make up and eyeglasses that lift up to the heavens.

Cookie made her entrance as Marilyn Monroe, stating she just came from the White House. Her look was total—fake blonde hair, mole on her right cheek near the lips and matching boobs that overflow, thanks to winter socks that gave the effect. Nena Rosello is Sabrina for the night with thick eyebrows.

But always, the Hall of Famer is Virgie Lopue. We waited in bated breath to see her entrance. As Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady, she looked every bit the lady in her black long ensemble with a giant hat decorated with flowers with black parasol.

But no one thought that this was her ultimate look for the night. Just when dinner was done, she faded away and did another costume change. Bringing much laughter, she wowed everyone as a Sumo Wrestler inflated to the max with bow-legs at that! That floored everyone! Virgie is indeed our Hall of Famer! There was endless laughter! Then, finally, she got back to the night’s theme of being “girlie” in her black pedal pushers, scarf in the neck and plaid blouse.

Sonia Sarrosa had some games in store and was hoarse trying to manage these ladies who did not follow instructions which elicited more laughter.

If there is one thing the Women in Travel is committed to, it is that “laughter is the best medicine in life.”

For these ladies who have seen much struggles and challenges in life, laughter indeed is the best elixir!

Merry Christmas to all and may God’s gift of humor never leave you when dark clouds try to invade your space!
