Angelito ‘Toots’ Soberano writes 30

ANGELITO “Toots” Soberano has joined the Great Newsroom in the Sky.

Toots, as he is fondly called by colleagues and friends, was 56 when called to report to the Great Newsroom in the Sky, on Christmas Day, December 25, at around 10:20PM.

He was in the presence of family and friends at the Baguio Medical Center when he left peacefully, freeing his body from pain and discomfort of a lingering illness as he joined his son John Quincy.

Toots, who headed the Camp John Hay Press Corps was a veteran photojournalist who had a peculiar eye for detail and precision.

He is best remembered for his photographs which often evoked emotion and were both timeless and timely, capturing the essence of the moment caught on his lens.

The best years of his life were devoted to the newspapers he gave his work to counting the Philippine Daily Inquirer, The Manila Bulletin as well as Sun*Star Baguio and a host of local broadsheets he contributed for.

He was also an active member of the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club, an organization he helped in flagship projects like the Lucky Summer Visitor, year after year, without fail, until his illness would not permit him to.

He is a member of the BB Picag, a group where he was able to give public service, often putting on more hours to work for the City and the nearby communities.

Toots had a sharp sense of humor and a big heart to help his colleagues and for that he will be missed both for his expert eye as well as his loyal camaraderie.

Toots is survived by his children Ghia Felyz, Angelie Monette and grandchildren Regis Eliav, Ryant Elijah, Jan Aveya, Rafael Soliven and Rosalie Fe.
