20,337 speed limit violators cited in 2014

A TOTAL of 20,337 speed limit violators in Davao City have been apprehended by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Davao Region for 2014.

LTO-Davao Assistant Regional Director Macario Bong Gonzaga, speaking on Monday's edition of the Kapehan sa Dabaw at The Annex of SM City Davao, said the data was the result of their intensified operation and campaign that began last year.

Gonzaga also said that besides intensifying the apprehensions of speed limit violators, they have also intensified their campaign on unregistered and unlicensed vehicles.

"Those who have been apprehended sa speed limit, muhilak ug muhangyo pud na sila namo kay pagbayad nila sa penalty unya mahibaw-an pud na unregistered pud ang ilang sakyanan, madugang jud na siya na penalty (they would cry and plead to us because when they pay their penalty it will also be revealed that they are unregistered and this will be additional penalty)," he said.

Penalty of unregistered vehicles, according to Gonzaga, is P10,000.

LTO-Davao Regional Director Lawyer Gomer Dy, for his part, said they also recorded a 60 percent decrease in major vehicular accidents and 20 percent decrease in minor vehicular accidents since the implementation of the speed limit in the city. (KGL)
