Man robs cabbie with toy gun, caught

A 31-YEAR-OLD man landed in jail after he allegedly attempted to rob a taxi driver using a toy gun in Mandaue City last Friday morning.

The suspect, identified by police as Gabriel Marie Limotan, was brought to the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) by Brian Rabago, 54, driver of a Yoo Taxi unit.

Police said Limotan hailed Rabago’s taxi in Barangay Basak at 7 a.m. and asked the driver to take him to Barangay Cambaro.

While driving on a road in Barangay Alang-Alang, Limotan, who was in the back seat, allegedly poked a toy gun in Rabago’s neck and declared a hold-up.

Unaware that the gun was fake, Rabago handed his earnings amounting to P300 to the suspect.

After handing the money, the driver noticed that Limotan was aiming a toy gun at him. He accelerated his taxi toward MCPO. He held the suspect and brought him to the office of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch.

Rabago, a native of Escalante, Negros Occidental residing in Baragay Lawaan Uno, Talisay City, recovered his earnings.

Limotan, a resident of Barangay Pagsabangun, Mandaue City, was detained at the Subangdaku Police Station.

A complaint for robbery is set to be filed against the suspect this Monday. RSB
