Carcar buy-bust yields P700T worth of shabu

INTELLIGENCE operatives seized P700,000 worth of suspected shabu from an alleged drug pusher in Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City last Friday.

Senior Insp. Leo Logronio of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) of the Cebu Provincial Police Office identified the suspect as Rodel Quijano, 39.

Level 3 pusher

Quijano, he said, is a level 3 drug pusher who can dispose of more than 50 grams of shabu per week.

The suspect is also in their watch list of alleged drug personalities in Carcar City.

Logronio said the buy-bust took place at 12:30 p.m.

A police decoy bought a small pack of shabu worth P300 from Quijano. Quijano handed over the item to the poseur-buyer outside his house in Sitio Tawog. He was arrested after the transaction was consummated.

Total haul

Logronio, who led the operation, said they recovered a 9mm Black Widow, believed to be a paltik or home-made from Danao City, with five live bullets.

Operatives also seized two large packs, two medium packs and nine other small packs of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu from the suspect.

Its total weight was 60 grams, Logronio said.

Based on the standard value set by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), this is worth P708,000, with each gram being worth P11,800.

When interviewed by Sun.Star Cebu, Logronio said they placed Quijano under surveillance for two weeks.

“Naglisod mi ug operate ani niya kay sudlonon kaayo ang balay unya dali ra mabantayan ang police (We had a hard time monitoring his activities because he lives in an interior portion of the barangay),” he said.

Logronio said the suspect operates only in Carcar City and reportedly started peddling shabu last year.

Apart from being involved in the illegal drug trade, Quijano was also allegedly involved in several shooting incidents in the city.

“Badlungon sad kuno kaayo ni (He’s a known troublemaker),” Logronio said.

When interviewed, Quijano admitted to selling drugs, Logronio said.

“Dili pa kuno kaayo dugay. Naa siya’y gihatag nga pangalan sa iyang source. Amo na ning gitanaw karon (He hasn’t been selling drugs for long. He gave us a name where he gets his drugs from. We’re looking into that),” he said.

Quijano is temporarily detained in the Consolacion Police Station.

A complaint for possession and selling of illegal drugs and unlawful possession of firearm will be filed against him on Monday. DSM
