PDEA nabs 3 in illegal drug-bust

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Northern Mindanao arrested three persons in two separate entrapment operations over the weekend.

PDEA's Misamis Oriental provincial special enforcement team nabbed what it called as a “drug personality” at Zone 5, Barra, Opol, Misamis Oriental.

PDEA-Northern Mindanao Director Emerson Margate identified the suspect as Oliver Ebarat, who’s also known as Popoy Ebarat, 35, male, married and resident of said place.

Taken from the suspect during the buy-bust were about 10 grams of what authorities believed was methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.

Also, after a tragic operation conducted by PDEA that led to the death of an anti-narcotics operative, agents had arrested two persons in Santo Niño, Barangay 31 here.

According to Margate, the suspects were Saydali Dumpi, 42, male, single and residing at the same place, and Mark Vincent Go, 26, male, single, from Barangay Saray in Iligan City.

Taken from the suspects were two pieces of heat-sealed sachet containing the alleged shabu with an estimated street value of P10,500.

The confiscated substances from the two operations were already forwarded to the PDEA regional laboratory service for qualitative and quantitative examinations while the suspect are currently detained at the at the agency’s detention facility.

It can be recalled that Sto. Niño area in Barangay 31 had figured in a controversy when a PDEA agent, Joel Genita, was killed during a buy-bust operation.

Genita, who posed as a shabu buyer, was killed on the spot, and was believed shot using a .45 caliber pistol.

One of the suspects who was arrested during the entrapment, Ibrahim Zafar, allegedly died of infection following a surgery on December 21, 2014.

In a previous article in Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro, Zafar’s family suspected he was tortured prior to his death, but Margate denied the allegation.

Margate said Zafar was even brought to a hospital after he complained of stomach ache.

At the time of his death, Zafar was under the custody of the PDEA.
