Kim Chiu pleads ‘no hate’ on gown issue with Maine Mendoza

CEBUANA actress Kim Chiu on Sunday appealed for sobriety after some netizens noticed that Maine Mendoza, aka Yaya Dub, wore on Saturday's "Tamang Panahon" concert a pink gown already worn by the Kapamilya star years back.

Chiu, who was bombarded by hate messages, asked everyone not to tweet negative comments, but instead spread good vibes to everyone.

"No hate please? A gown is just a gown. It's how you make people happy. I think that's more important," she said.

Designed by Francis Libiran, netizens found out that Chiu wore a similar gown during the designer's Spring/Summer 2015 show in 2013.

But Libiran clarified that his creation was first previewed during the Metrowear Icon fashion show held at the Edsa Shangri-la Hotel as part of his 100-piece Pink Series.

The celebrity go-to designer said Chiu was "generous enough" to model the gown for his fashion show.

He added that the gown was bought by "Eat Bulaga" through stylist Liz Uy's Stylized Studio Incorporated.

"We are so glad, honored and grateful that Maine Mendoza and her official stylists, Stylized Studio, Inc., chose a beautiful Francis Libiran dress from our Spring/Summer 2015," Libiran said.

Comedian and "Eat Bulaga" member Allan K also commented on the issue.

He indicated netizens should accept that "a gown is just a gown."

The "Tamang Panahon" event was a smash hit, drawing more than 50,000 people to the Philippine Arena in Bulacan and generating 39.5 million tweets, which eclipsed the 35.6 million tweets posted by the 2014 World Cup semi-final match between Germany and Brazil. (Sunnex)
