PCT, Lady Knights barge into championship

THE Philippine College of Technology (PCT) and Lady Knights Football Club (FC) demolished their respective rivals to book the first finals tickets of their respective divisions as the Philippine Football Federation-Davao Football Association (PFF-DFA) Under-15 Boys and Under-14 Girls Championships resumed at the Tionko Football field yesterday.

PCT toppled Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) in their Under-15 boys semis clash, 4-1.

John Mark B. Diamat started the ball rolling for PCT, netting the first goal in the fourth minute.

Ateneo booter Joshua Jericho De Luna was then slapped a yellow card after he was caught by a technical official pushing an opposing booter when they fought for the ball.

AdDU's Raphael Joseph Lagon countered with a goal in the 34th, forcing a 1-all deadlock.

In the second half, PCT's Anthony Semacio knocked in a goal in the 46th while teammate Diamat added one goal in the 54th, snatching a 3-1 advantage barely 25 minutes left in the game. Christopher Esguerra's goal in the 73rd wrapped up the match.

PCT coach Alvic Troyo, in a post-game interview with Sun.Star Davao yesterday, said that they have implemented a new strategy in preparation for their match against AdDU, saying:"Gigamit ug gibutang namo si Diamat sa midfield para mahold na namo among depensa laban sa mga offensive players sa kalaban (I implemented a technique by using Diamat as the midfielder to tighten our defense against the offensive players of the opposing team).

He added:"Si Diamat gyud nagdala sa game namo karon ug dako kaayo iyang tabang sa depensa ug scoring. Mao lang sad siguro gihapon na strategy ang among gamiton sa finals (Diamat led the game for us in both defense and offense. I plan to use the same strategy in the finals)."

Troyo added in the vernacular, "I hope our team captures the title."

PCT clashes against Mintal Interage Football Club (FC) for the U15 boys crown.

Lady Knights FC, for its part, blanked Southpoint School (SPS) in their Under-14 girls semis match, 3-0.

Althea Kate Villacencio led the scoring for Lady Knights FC with two goals while teammate Beatriz Angelica Magno added one goal to complete the rout.

Finals matches are set today at the same venue.

Both DFA-sanctioned tournaments are sponsored by Khanj T-Shirt, Hinex Janitorial and Allied Services, GHT Water Refilling Station and Laundry Shop and FC Wao.
