3-year-old boy dies after being ‘electrocuted’

A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy was allegedly electrocuted inside a shopping mall in Talisay City last Monday night.

Police are still looking into the death of Mike Christer Manzano inside one of the concessionaires of Starmall Talisay in Barangay Lawaan 1 around 8:50 p.m.

In a statement, mall officials of the mall said they are coordinating with the tenant where the incident happened and are cooperating with the police investigation.

“We wish to convey our deepest sympathies to the bereaved family who appears to have figured in an accident inside the leased premises of one of our tenants. It is with great sorrow that we sympathize with the family of the deceased and would like to extend solemn condolences and prayers for his eternal repose,” the statement said.

PO3 Jason Del Campo, desk officer of the Talisay City Police Station, said Mike was with his sister Shiela Marie Bernardino and her husband when they went to the mall to buy some groceries.

While Bernadino and her husband were shopping at the meat section, Manzano was standing near the chillers containing meat.

No conclusion yet

When the boy touched one of the chillers, he suddenly collapsed.

Bernadino and her husband rushed Manzano to the Baking Medical Center in Barangay Lipata in Minglanilla.

But Manzano was declared dead on arrival.

SPO1 Benjamin Sebellita said they couldn’t conclude that Manzano was electrocuted.

When they checked the chiller that the boy allegedly touched, it was not emitting electricity.

But Sebellita admitted they are not sure if the chiller was tampered. He told reporters they were only able to look at it yesterday.

He said when they interviewed the doctor who examined Manzano, they were told the boy didn’t have burn marks.

Sebellita said only an autopsy will determine how the boy died.
