FASHION is a form of self-expression; it always has been. A display of one’s fashion preferences requires no explanation as it does all the talking. Part of donning those favorite pieces hanging in the closet or items found in retail stores, is to reflect one’s personality as well as to stand out from the rest. And nothing says “personalized” more than wearing those DIY (Do It Yourself) clothing.

With Cebu in high spirits two weeks ago with the rousing Sinulog festival ongoing, Islands Souvenirs’ Sinulog festivities got bigger with this year’s “Cut & Style.” This campaign features Sinulog shirt designs which customers can have trimmed to one’s liking, painted, embellished with accessories—totally customized to make it one’s own.

Also, Islands Souvenirs’ new Cut & Style brand ambassadors came to Cebu to join the celebration: Top celebrity stylist Liz Uy and top fashion and travel blogger Laureen Uy. Team STYLIZED, together with Cebu’s personalities, top models and social influencers, walked the runway modeling the brand’s Sinulog shirts in different trims and designs in a fashion show.

Held at The Northwing in SM City Cebu, the fashion show was set in five segments beginning with She Dreams, which displayed the Cut & Style creations designed and embellished by Liz and Laureen Uy. The segment featured young Cebuanas in their personalized getup such as Anne Geidt, Gabi Baljak, Nicole Li, Jennifer and Jasmin Sarmiento, Miren Jarque, Gillian Uang, Alyssa Sacal, Annette Osmeña, including Miss Cebu 2015 Wynonah Buot with her court Genefe Navilon (first runner-up), Aivy Castro (second runner-up), Lucena Magdadaro (third runner-up) and Domenic Reynes (fourth runner-up).

The second segment called Aztec Allure showed the brand’s Sinulog shirts fashioned with Aztec designs worn by Cebu’s top models. The third segment The Kids Are Alright got more playful as kids together with their moms wore their customized Sinulog shirts. The segment featured mom Tanya Go with kids Ty and Vy; Kate Anzani with kids Azzurra, Ambra and Alessia; kids Yano, Renzo and Kalina Perdices; mom Elaine Lo with kids Julianna, Mikaela and Clarisse; Elise Demiar with kids Lucas and Lana; Golda Ouano with kids Harlow and Shiloh; and Tasha Dixon with her kids Alistair, Miles and Sienna.

Men took centerstage in the About the Boys segment wearing edgy pieces. These were Doyzkie Buenaviaje, Kiko Kintanar, Josh Alipe, David Cua, Marvin Rono, Mikel Alazas, Joshua Sinclair, Jose Piero Domingo Longa and Manuel Bierman.

This year’s Cut & Style went high couture, as the last and long-awaited segment called Dreamcatcher World by Cary Santiago showed the most sought after fashion designer’s original laser-cut creations worn by Cebu’s top models together with Brand Ambassadors Laureen and Liz Uy. These were exclusively made by the master couturier for Cut & Style 2015. (Monica Lopez)
