2 fetuses found dead; mom shot

TWO dead fetuses were found abandoned in a cemetery and in a creek in Cebu City last Sunday.

The first one was discovered by Benjun Briones, 30, while he was sweeping the grounds of Cebu City Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery around 10 a.m.

Briones, who stays in the cemetery, told police he first saw a tightly sealed glass jar standing near him. When he checked it, he found something that looked like human flesh inside.

When he realized it was a fetus, he then went to the Labangon Barangay Hall, which called for assistance from homicide investigators of the Cebu City Police Office.

The homicide investigators led by SPO3 Filomeno Mendaros later discovered in a test that the fetus had been preserved and was about two months old yet.

They have yet to figure out who left the glass in the cemetery.

An hour later, another female fetus was found in a creek on V. Rama Ave. in Barangay Calamba.

A citizen, who refused to identify himself to the police, said he was about to squat and defecate into the creek when he found the fetus floating right below his rump.

He then informed barangay tanod Julito Belarma, who then turned the case over to the homicide investigators.

Rescue attempt

Emergency Response Team personnel of Barangay Sambag 2, led by paramedics Clinton Garcuta, also responded to assess if the fetus is still breathing.

It was already “unresponsive with negative vital signs,” Garcuta reported.

The fetus was believed to be eight months old.

Both fetuses were taken into custody at the St. Francis Funeral Homes for proper disposition.

In Liloan and Toledo City last Sunday, a seller of dogs and a woman were killed in separate shooting incidents.

At 12 p.m., Aristotle Cogal Benabaye was shot to death by three unidentified men on board a motorcycle in Barangay Cotcot, Liloan.

The 36-year-old victim suffered gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.

Responding police officers led by PO2 Jose Ahron Ortega rushed Benabaye to a hospital in the town, where the victim died.

Before the incident happened, witnesses told the police that Benabaye was talking with his customers who wanted to buy dogs from him.

Benabaye did not notice a motorcycle carrying three men.

The rearmost back rider shot him.

Benabaye ran toward the store owned by his neighbor and fell on the ground. The other back rider followed him and shot him using a .45 pistol.

The culprits then fled.

Investigation is still being conducted to determine the motive behind the incident.

Shot

Eight hours earlier, a woman was killed by her live-in partner while she was carrying their child in Barangay, Toledo City.

Police identified the fatality as Terrypoña Ebo, 48. She suffered a gunshot wound in the left portion of her face.

The suspect is Eduardo Radana, who escaped arrest.

Investigation showed Ebo was holding her two-year-old son when she was allegedly shot by Radana, who used a .45 pistol.

Before the incident, Ebo reportedly got irked when Radana told her that he planned to sell their two pigs without giving her a share of the proceeds.

The police are still tracking down the suspect’s location.
