Wait for the probe, Opapp urges public

AN OFFICIAL from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (Opapp) advised the public to "wait for the investigations" on the Mamasapano, Maguindanao encounter to be finished before "pointing fingers."

"Some people have a lot of conclusions na nakalibog sa mga katawhan labi na sa mga relatives sa nangamatay (that is confusing the people especially the relatives of those who were killed)," Ednar G. Dayanghirang of Oppap said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw at The Annex of SM City Davao Monday.

"Ang hangyo unta nato sa (My plead to the) public is to wait for the results of investigations, one from the government, one from the MILF, one from the media and one from a civil society group before we start pointing out fingers," he added.

Dayanghirang also said that abolishing the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) should not be an option because it will not result to peace.

"It is a very disastrous recommendation for an all-out war; it would not end to peace," he said.

"Kung iatras nato sa kataas na sa naabot sa atong peace negotiation sa MILF tungod sa nahitabo muatras nata padulong sa gyera, dili ta makaabot sa maong kalinaw na atong ginadamgo (If we will retreat at this point that we have reached far in our peace negotiation with the MILF and go for an all-out war because of what happened, we will not reach that peace we dreamed of) but it will also entail a lot more of deaths and children that would not be able to go to school," Dayanghirang said.

He said the Mamasapano incident involving the Philippine National Police's Special Action Forces (PNP-SAF) and the members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) should serve as an example that there is a sense of urgency in pushing the BBL.

"Ipasar na nang Bangsamoro Basic Law para maundang na nang armed conflict with the government and the MILF mahimong peaceful ang lugar (Bangsamoro Basic Law should be passed so that armed conflicts between the government and the MILF and the place will become peaceful)," he said.

Hearings and discussions for the BBL passage in the Senate is still under temporary suspension. (KGL)
