Mabilog is Top 5 in 2014 World Mayor awards

ILOILO CITY -- Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has been named one of the world’s top city mayors through a tilt spearheaded by the City Mayors Foundation.

Mabilog, now on his second term, is the only city mayor in the Philippines and one of the two city mayors in Asia and the Pacific who were accorded the honor as one of the world’s best local chief executives.

The global search, dubbed World Mayor, was launched by the foundation in January 2004 and its Urban Affairs Research Institute in honoring those who have served the community, governed openly and honestly, as well as made significant contributions to cities nationally and internationally.

"The philanthropic City Mayors Foundation awards the World Mayor Prize every two years to a mayor who has made outstanding contributions to his/her community and has developed a vision for urban living and working that is relevant to towns and cities across the world," said the City Mayors Foundation in its website.

The Top 10 World Mayors are Naheed Nenshi of Calgary, Canada; Daniel Termont of Ghent, Belgium; Tri Ri Maharini of Surabaya, Indonesia; Carlos Ocariz of Sucre, Venezuela; Jed Patrick Mabilog of Iloilo City, Philippines; Albretch Schroter of Jena, Germany; Annise Parker of Houston, Texas, USA; Yiannis Boutaris of Thessaloniki, Greece; Gruisy Nicolini of Lampedusa, Italy; and Aziz Kocaoglu of Ismir, Turkey.
