DA-3 aids farmers affected by Typhoon 'Lando'

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Department of Agriculture Central Luzon is now exerting efforts in helping farmers of the region that were affected by the onslaught of Typhoon "Lando" in Central Luzon last week.

Currently, there is an on-going distribution to affected farmers of 52,000 bags of hybrid seeds and 30,000 bags certified seeds, under the High Yielding Technology, a subsidy of P2,500 per hectare, 500 bags of complete fertilizer and assorted vegetable seeds are also being distributed to affected farmers of Aurora.

On the livestock sector there is also distribution of native pigs and chicken. Meanwhile, various planting materials and vegetables are given out to the farmers Nueva Ecija.

In addition, a machinery pool of combined harvester in Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija were established and 10 combined harvester were awarded to different provinces.

President Benigno Aquino III and Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala personally visited the affected farmers of Casiguran, Aurora, a town that was highly damaged by the typhoon.

They led the distribution of vegetable seeds and 400 laminated sacks.

A rehab and recovery plan amounting to P800 million has already been submitted to DA Central Office and National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and validation process of DA is being conducted.

There is a Calamity Fund and Quick Response Fund from the Department of Budget and Management amounting to P9.6 million. However, a protocol must be followed.

Estimated volume loss to rice has reached 380,000 metric tons with an estimated value of P5.9 million.
