ENVIRONMENT advocates are gearing up for the 13th Flight of the Eagles (Fote) bike run that is will unreel on Nov. 22 in Davao City.

Dubbed, "Climate Ride: Sustainable Transportation, Sustainable Transportation, Sustainable Climate", the event is organized by different government and non-government organizations.

Interface Development Interventions Inc. (Idis) executive director Mary Ann V. Fuertes said its theme gives emphasis on the issue of the climate change and how urban residents can contribute to decrease the carbon footprint.

"We do this every year. But this time, itinaon naming ito sa 2nd National Bicycle Day. Instead of the usual downtown to Malagos watershed route, we are going to explore Davao's urban route," Fuertes said in a recent press conference.

Monica Ayala, head of the Cycle for Life, said such move is part of their advocacy to promote cycling as an alternative means of transportation, knowing that Davao City already has a Bicycle Ordinance.

The fun ride will start at 6 a.m. and will end at People's Park, Ayala said, adding that its 40-kilometer route will take the participants to some of the city's green spaces like the Dacudao Tree Avenue, Diversion Road, and Shrine Hills EcoZone.

It features competitive junior (17 years old and below), masters (40 years old and above); and Fat Boys Rider (weighing 85 kilograms above) and fat look categories.

The P400 registration fee is inclusive of cycling jersey, food-pack and raffle ticket.
