Bike for your heart

SOME 300 riders are expected to join the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Davao-presented Bike for Your Heart set to unreel at 5:30 a.m. Saturday in an out-and-back course at the Clifford Park, Roxas Avenue in Davao City.

Race director Cyrus Sarsaba bared this in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao Wednesday afternoon.

Sarsaba said that the 25-kilometer bikefest, supported by NBI special investigator Jonathan Balite who serves as event director and race technical director John Oliver Valmoria, is open to all interested riders.

"All kinds of bikes such as mountain bike (MTB), bicycle motocross (BMX), road bikes, and female bikes are encouraged to join the event," Sarsaba added.

Registration is pegged at P400 inclusive of bike jersey and free meal and water. Interested riders may register at Base Camp Davao office.

He added:"I will spearhead the briefing of participants before the fun ride will officially begin."

Riders will start from Clifford Park along Roxas Avenue then proceed to Quimpo Boulevard-Times Beach-McArthur Highway-Matina Pangi-Diversion Road-Laz Terrazas-Buhangin-Dacudao Drive-Cabaguio (Emcor)-Piapi Boulevard and back to origin.

The estimated time of completion for the fun ride will be at two hours and 30 minutes.

Young riders, however, are advised to take the inner lane for the duration of the event to prevent them from any accident.

Sarsaba also bared that PhilCycling deputy secretary-general for Mindanao Salvador "Jun" Paholio will spearhead the race.

"A speed limit of 20 kilometers per hour will be implemented among the participants. Since this event is not a contest, there will be no need to overtake riders," Sarsaba added.

Other side events will spice up the event that also stakes raffle prizes. Special awards such as biggest delegation, youngest and oldest riders, heaviest biker and slowest bikers will also be given away.

"If this event will receive good reception from our participants then we will organize another bike event but this time it will be a competition among bikers," he shared.

Sarsaba, meanwhile, invites Dabawenyos to support their fun ride event organized in celebration of NBI's anniversary last December.

The bikefest is also backed up by Base Camp and sponsored by Fit Bar, Nature's Spring, Energizer, MX3, NBI-Davao and city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office. (KRP)
