Guv heeds village chiefs’ plea

REQUESTS for financial assistance to repair barangay infrastructure, vehicles, health and illegal drugs were mostly the problems aired by barangay captains in Cebu 1st and 6th Districts to Gov. Hilario Davide III yesterday.

Cebu ABC President Celestino Martinez III considers it a successful 1st- and 6th-District conference for 191 barangay heads.

“It is a successful activity by bringing barangay captains closer to the government,” Martinez said.

As for those who submitted a barangay resolution requesting financial assistance but have not received any reply yet, Davide asked for forgiveness and told his staff James Canoy to get their names as he will facilitate the release of funds.

Canoy said some of the barangay captains have previous cash assistance that still remain unliquidated, thus new assistance will not be released.

Others are already at the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) and need follow-up.

Bidding for multi-cabs is still being done, said Davide as hopefully it will be released this month or next.

Davide announced that multicabs assigned to barangays by former Gov. Gwen Garcia, and still remain as Capitol’s property, will be turned over to the barangay. He said they are just processing voluminous documents, as Provincial Board members already authorized the turnover to its new owner, and the barangay will be the one register and maintain the vehicles.

Advice

The governor urged barangay captains, especially those in the remote areas, to cluster themselves in groups of three for an ambulance stationed in their community to serve their emergency needs.

Davide also announced that by June the province will have additional heavy equipment—backhoe, grader, dump trucks and bulldozer, for road repairs and road opening.

As of now, Capitol will be renting heavy equipment and will form a task force to attend to barangay roads upon requests of barangay captains.

Drugs

On the fight against drugs, he urged barangay captains to write the names of those involved in drugs in their community and send these to the Governor’s Office and Davide will ask PNP Regional Director Tom Bañas and Provincial Director Noel Gillamac to act on them.

These include names of lawmen, who are involved in drugs, said Davide.

Canoy said the total cash assistance release for 2014 for Cebu 6th District is P12,058,336. Cebu 1st District had P19,385,000.
