Contractors told: Put up visible warning devices

AN ILOILO City councilor passed a resolution urging the Department of Public Works and Highways district and city engineering offices, as well as the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) to push contractors to put up visible Early Warning Devices (EWDs) in road construction to deter and minimize accidents.

Councilor Rodel Fullon Agado said the EWDs are mandated but several contractors failed to put up these important signs and road advisories, leading to several road accidents.

He said the tarpaulins of politicians and officials should not be placed in the project site, as these will distract the concentration of motorists, leading to accidents.

Agado said several infrastructures such as road construction are ongoing in Iloilo City and some have failed to secure a building permit and locational clearance from the City Government.

Similarly, the Dole had issued a work stoppage on the construction of a coal-fired power plant due to accidents of workers.

Agado said the City Engineer’s Office must issue a cease and desist order immediately to these projects by contractors who ignore the law. (LCP)
