Septic haulers need accreditation

ALL septic haulers in Cebu City need to be accredited by the City Government to operate.

This is in line with the passage of City Ordinance 2398, also known as “The Ordinance Providing for a Septage Management Program for the City of Cebu, Providing Fees and Imposing Penalties for Non-Compliance Thereof.”

In his three-page order dated Jan. 30, Mayor Michael Rama said septic haulers should comply with the accreditation requirements set by the Cebu City Septage Management Board (CCSMB).

“Existing and already operating desludgers or septic haulers shall comply with the accreditation requirements within 30 days,” he said.

Requirements

Among the requirements set by the CCSMB for accreditation is that septic haulers must be duly-registered businesses in the city.

They should also have an office or garage that is enough for their septic hauling trucks.

CCSMB also required them to have enough manpower who will be directly involved in the desludging, cleaning, hauling and disposal of septic wastes.

CCSMB said the personnel should have proper training on environmental safety and health hazard, as well as safe and clean operation of desludging.

They should also be equipped with safety and sanitary maintenance gear, such as face mask, eye protection and gloves, among others.

Septic haulers must have vacuum trucks capable of transporting septic wastes without leakage and with powerful suction pump and leak-free hoses. The trucks should bear the name and logo of the company.

The septic haulers should also secure a manifest receipt. It’s a document proving that septic waste from a household has been disposed of properly in the City’s septage treatment plant (STP).

Interested

Under the order, Rama said there will be no other STP that is authorized to receive and treat septic waste but only the STP of the City at the North Reclamation Area.

Septic haulers that disposing of septic waste at the STP will be charged P250 per cubic meter.

According to the order, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, the City Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Team, barangay officials, traffic personnel and police will monitor operations of the septic haulers.

Violators of the order will have their vehicles impounded by the City.

During the CCSMB meeting earlier this week, Northern Septic Tank Services, Linjohn Septic Tank Services, Cebu Septic Tank Services Corp. and JCM Septic Tank Services signified their interest to be accredited by the City.
