Body 're-studying' Dacudao trees set for cutting

DAVAO City Drainage Management Unit (DMU) head retired Colonel Yusof Jimlani said they are currently "re-studying" the trees identified to be cut along Dacudao Avenue.

In a phone interview last Wednesday, Jimlani said that they are conducting this together with the Davao City Environment and Natural Resources (Cenro), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Environment Natural Resources, City Engineer's Office (CEO) and other concerned agencies to make sure that the identified trees would really help them clean the silt deposit and the trees whose roots are cracking the cemented canal.

It has been reported that Cenro chief engineer Elisa Madrazo have said that they have identified 22 trees not fit for cutting. This was found out when Cenro conducted an assessment in the area last year after the request of the DMU and the CEO who proposed to cut trees for their drainage project.

Jimlani said they are hoping to finish the second assessment along the area before March, so they can proceed to processing the necessary permits needed for them to start cleaning the said canal. (KGL)
