DOH monitoring 2 in Eastern Visayas for Mers-CoV

THE Department of Health (DOH) in Eastern Visayas has been doing contact tracing on two passengers of Saudi Airlines Flight 860 that arrived in Manila last week after a 32-year-old nurse onboard that plane tested positive for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus (Mers-CoV).

DOH-Eastern Visayas Director Jose Llcuna Jr. said the two passengers will be observed at Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center in Tacloban City. He refused to divulge the passengers' identities.

“We are going into the contact tracing stage na and then they will be housed at EVRMC for observation,” Llacuna said.

Health authorities earlier said the

possibility of other passengers on the plane to be infected is low as the passengers onboard, including the Filipina nurse, showed no symptoms of Mers-CoV when they arrived in the country last week. The government though assured that it is taking all necessary preventive measures to prevent the spread of the infectious disease.

Llacuna assured the public that trained health workers are ready to treat any suspected patient of Mers-CoV in Eastern Visayas. (PIA)
