2 civilians unscathed in roadside bombing

TWO people have escaped unscathed in a roadside bombing perpetrated by Abu Sayyaf bandits in the hinterlands of Sulu, a top military official said Wednesday.

Brigadier General Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu (JTGS) commander, identified the would-be victims as Mandi Ammang, 42, and Wahab Amisali, 43, both residents of Sitio Halaw, Latih village, Patikul.

Based on investigation, Ammang and Amisali accidentally stepped on a trip-wire that triggered the explosion of three improvised bombs fashioned as landmines around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday along the roadside at Sitio Halaw in the village of Latih.

Arrojado said policemen and Marine explosive ordnance demolition personnel went to the blast site to conduct post-blast investigation. The area, after inspection, was declared clear.

He said the main target of the Abu Sayyaf bandits are government soldiers passing the road for an early morning jog, adding that they received a report saying the group of Abu Sayyaf leader Nammil Ahadjiri was the one behind the bombing plot.
